Ameet Aggarwal, ND

After volunteering in remote villages of northern Kenya as a Kiswahili translator and driver to a team of naturopathic clinicians and Dr. Katherine Youngblood from Bastyr University, Ameet had his first exposure to Naturopathic Medicine. Inspired by his experience in these remote settings, he headed straight for Toronto to pursue his career as Naturopathic doctor, with the dream of bringing back a means for self-sustainable and effective holistic health care to rural parts of Kenya.

A graduate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Dr. Aggarwal holds his license with the Ontario Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy - Naturopathy; the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia; and the Kenya Ministry of Health. He also serves on the board for Abha Light Foundation, an NGO which delivers homeopathic care in Africa.

In his training as a Naturopathic Doctor, Ameet worked at the Sherbourne Community Health Center in Toronto, which is an integrative clinic combining naturopathic medicine with other forms of medicine to treat HIV and AIDS. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Aggarwal completed his postgraduate work with the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and incorporates Gestalt psychotherapy into his naturopathic practice. Ameet also did advanced studies in homeopathy with Dr. Rajan Sankaran and the Bombay Group in India, and combines these new techniques with classical homeopathy. In the meanwhile, Ameet also practices at Healing What Is Clinic

Ameet believes naturopathy is extremely important in addressing the current medical needs in rural Africa, because modalities like homeopathy and nutrition act on a long term basis to treat the underlying cause of disease, improve immune function and restore the body's vitality.

Dr. John Dempster, ND

Dr. John Dempster, N.D. attended the University of Guelph where he studied Biological Sciences and earned an Honours Bachelor of Science degree while he competed as a downhill ski racer for 3 years with the U of G ski team. Following this he completed a four year professional program in Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Toronto. There he was actively involved in the CCNM community and worked as a student representative for Biomed International. He has studied in Germany with the Occidental Institute Research Foundation (OIRF) where he was trained in Biological medicine focusing on individualized pH balancing and terrain analysis. John holds his Naturopathic Medical license in Ontario and is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). He currently practices at Phoenix Health & Fitness Clinic in Mississauga, and 889 Yonge Holistic Lifestyle in Toronto, Ontario. Emilie Salomons, R.TCMP, R.Ac

Emilie Salomons, R.TCMP, R.Ac, is a licensed Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a registrant of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of BC. She is a graduate of the five year Doctor of TCM program at the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver. After graduation, Emilie spend eight months in Beijing, China, doing post graduate studies at the Dongzhimen University hospital and the Ditan hospital for HIV and Infectious Diseases. In keeping with her commitment to working at the community level, Emilie has worked and volunteered as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist in New York (Bronx), Vancouver and Richmond. Currently she has a private practice in Yaletown and is working for both the Centre for Concurrent Disorders and two youth addiction centres.

Natalie Groenewoud, Naturopathic Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine

After spending almost five years studying and playing NCAA division 1 soccer for the University of Hawaii at Manoa Natalie graduated with a degree in Biology and minor in Botany. Natalie then in 2005 decided to fulfill her lifelong ambition of studying Naturopathic Medicine by moving back home to Vancouver and enrolling at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. She is presently finishing up her second year as a student there and excited to move towards Naturopathic Medicine abroad and possibly midwifery.
“There has always been a driven desire in my heart to go to Africa and practice Naturopathic Medicine, so it was a true blessing that Ameet inquired to Boucher for volunteers to help build FIMA. I am very excited to be a part of this vision and dedicated to make FIMA a complete success!”

Brewster Jae Scott, Naturopathic Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine

Brewster is a Naturopathic Student at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, during which time she was a part of Allison Environmental Society called the Eco-Action society, whose mandate was to raise awareness for the environmental issues present around their school. She was also a part of the Mount Allison Chapter of Free the Children, where she helped organize and participated in the first FTC University Conference covering topics such as non-violent communication, world affairs and peace keeping. She travelled to Kenya with Leaders Today, an affiliate of FTC, where she helped build a school house and taught children on the Masai Mara. This experience opened her eyes to a different way to look at the world, and ever since that time, she has wanted to be part of initiatives that promote peace, healing and growth in all parts of the world. FIMA welcomes Brewster as an extremely valuable member of our team!
